Most of Costa Rica’s volcanoes are extinct, however there are still active ones. Póas Volcano, at 2,705 meters, is located near the town of Alajuela, and has what may be the world’s largest crater, measuring more than a 1.6 kilometers in diameter. From a pure activity perspective the active Arenal Volcano is the single most impressive volcano in the country and is 1,635 meters in height. Others include Irazú Volcano, at 3,440 meters, and is close to the city of Cartago. It also is active occasionally. Others include Chirripó Grande, at 3,810 meters, and Terbi, at 3,800 meters is the highest elevation points in the country.
